Beyond Graduation Daily Tip – February 10, 2009

NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK

With the struggling economy and a job market that is becoming more and more saturated by the day, there has never been a better time to start calling old friends.  The success of networking rests in the importance of personal relationships.  At almost any job that you are applying for today, the probability that hundreds of people are applying for the same position is practically certain.  The opportunity to have someone express their confidences in your abilities is much more important than what any resume could say.   Take the time to sit down and think about potential opportunities you could pursue through friends, family and former colleagues.  Ask them out for a cup of coffee and get a sense of their industry/office/career and let them know that you may be seeking employment.  You will be surprised how willing most people are to help others in need.  And in the idea of good karma, think about how your connections can help out your friends who may be looking for new work.
